I attended my cousin's funeral in West Virginia and the Southern West Virginia Nurse Honor Guard performed the Nightingale Nurses Tribute. It was incredibly beautiful. The ceremony honoring my cousin’s nursing legacy brought tears to my eyes. I decided then that I would love to have this nursing tribute done when I pass and to also provide it to my nursing colleagues in the Lynchburg area.

I first became interested in the Nurses Honor Guard after witnessing an Honor Guard ceremony during a Nurse’s Retreat. I was deeply touched by the tribute and immediately knew I wanted to bring something like that to Lynchburg and the surrounding area.

After attending the funeral of my colleague's mother, Deborah Dupont, and witnessing the beautiful tribute performed by the Heart of Virginia Nurse Honor Guard, I was deeply moved by the dignity and grace of the ceremony. In that moment, I knew nurses in the Lynchburg area deserved the same meaningful tribute to honor their lifelong commitment to caring for others.
